Statue of Unity, the newest tourist place to visit in India is very unique in its formation and design. The Statue of Unity is a statue of Indian statesman and founding father, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (1875-1950) located in the state of Gujarat, India. This is the world’s tallest statue with a height of 182 metres (597 feet) and is located on the river island facing Sardar Sarovar Dam on the river Narmada in Kevadiya colony. Indian PM Narendra Modi has dedicated this monument to the nation on 31 October 2018 on the 143rd birth anniversary of “Ironman Sardar Patel”. After being opened to all, this statue has become a major tourist attraction as people from across the country are coming to see this statue. It gives them a message to remain united, no matter whatever the circumstances are.

Construction & Design
The construction of such a huge monument was announced in 2014 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for unparalleled contribution of Sardar Patel in the unity of India. Statue is huge in its design and represents the personality of Sardar Patel as “Sabse Bada Sardar”. This monument has been completed in a record time of 4 years i.e from 31 October 2014 to mid-October 2018. A major tourist destination designed by Mr. RAM V. Sutar (Indian Sculptor) and completed construction by Larsen & Toubro company at an approx. cost of Rs. 2,989 crore ($420 million). This monument is surrounded by a 12 km (7.5 mi) long artificial lake which makes it even more beautiful.
Sardar Patel is responsible for the unification of hundreds of princely states to form the modern political boundary of India. This statue is an enlarged version of the statue present in the Ahmedabad International Airport. After its opening, people are getting attracted towards the expression, posture, pose, dignity, confidence, iron will and kindness shown in the statue. The head is up, a shawl flung from shoulders and hands are on side as if he is ready to walk. The total height of structure from its base is 240 m (790 ft) with a base of 58 m (190 ft) and statue of 182 m (597 ft). 182 m figure has been specifically chosen as there are 182 seats in Gujarat assembly. It is bigger than any other previously existing statue of the world like Spring Temple Buddha, Statue of Liberty, The Motherland Calls, Christ the Redeemer, Statue of David.
Features & Major Attractions
This Statue of Unity has been visited by 1,28,000 tourists in the first 11 days since it was opened to general public on 1 November 2018. It remains closed every Monday for maintenance purposes. This Statue is facing the Narmada Dam downstream and comprises of 5 zones out of which only first 3 zones are accessible to public. Zone 1 comprises of a memorial garden and a museum for exhibition. 2nd Zone reaches upto thighs of the Sardar Patel (149 m) while the 3rd zone is a viewing gallery in the chest of Sardar ji. Zone 4 is the maintenance area while the 5th zone comprises the head and shoulder of the Statue of Unity. People can also see “Valley of Flowers” which is a major attraction while visiting the Sardar Patel’s statue.
The museum in zone 1 depicts the picture of the life of Sardar Patel and his contributions. An adjoining audio-visual gallery provides a 15 minute presentation on Patel and also describes the tribal culture of the state. Statue of unity can withstand upto 130 km per hour and earthquakes measuring 6.5 on Richter scale. Gallery is located at a height of 153 m and can hold upto 200 people at a time. The Statue of Sabse Bade Sardar is standing high, not just in meters and feet, but much more in terms of academic, historical, national and spiritual values. This place will serve as a major tourist destination and will inspire people in the ages to come. This statue is even visible from the space and has garnered major attraction from people across the globe. This statue has created a buzz in the entire world and is a proud moment for the Indian people.
